1. What does it mean to be a christian versus someone claiming to be saved?

2.A christian is someone who simply believes in God, it does not necessarily mean you will go to haven. Someone who claims to be saved is someone who not only was baptized and filled the holy ghost but someone who lives and walk in the path God has set for them.

3.Atheist,my boyfriend.

4.He would define both terms as meaning that you're a saint and isn't a victim of any wrong doing. Most of the time he does like to talk about this because he firmly believes that "church people" are the same as everyone else. I tend to be very defensive because yes we are the same as people who don't attend church because we live life as them.

5. My purpose in arguing this definition is to set the record straight. A lot of people tend to mix of the meanings and this important.

6.the fact that i attend church, the bible, and someone you may no that attend church.

7.The bible. it will clarify in scripture.

1. What is a best friend
2. A best friend is someone that is there for you know matter what you’re going through, someone that is not afraid to tell that you’re wrong, someone who genuinely loves you for who you are regardless of what you do or not have. A best friend does not always have to be a person, sometimes an object or animal is your best friend. My definition differs from others because some people think a best friend is someone you knew for a long time, or someone that knows you well, but being a best friend goes well beyond that.
3. Everyone that thinks they don’t have a best friend and those that do. Whether you’re young or old, I want people to realize that someone may be your best friend and you not even realize it.
4. A. Someone who knows you well and cares about you. B. That everyone should have a best friend. C. I think the majority will agree with my definition.
5. Because a lot of people will call anyone their best friend just to say it, and then others will be sad that they don’t have one, when they may actually have one.
6. I’ll provide examples from experiences with my best friends and examples from others with their best friends.
7. My life will be a source, as well as other articles about best friends. They will add to my definition so others will have a better understanding as to why I describe a best friend the way I do.

1. Morality

2. My unique perspective on the term is how I first interpret objective morality and its need of a standard, then contrasting it with both the arbitrary nature of morality without standard and addressing situations of moral ambiguity even when a standard is in place. My definition will differ from others because of how it forces the establishment of a standard as the cornerstone of the definition.

3. My audience for the project is a group of Pentecostal Christians.

4. My audience is likely to define morality as the compliance of one’s actions with God’s will. They are likely to feel that they have a firm grasp on whether or not their actions are moral, yet little or no understanding of how to define morality objectively (in a way less abstract that “compliance with God’s will”.) They are likely to react to my definition as incorrect because it does not involve God or his will within it, which is understood to be the essential part of the definition from their perspective.

5. My purpose is to advocate towards Christians the benefits of defining words objectively without reliance on God. My definition is important because I feel it effectively defines the term “morality” outside the spectrum of any deity or higher power.

6. I plan to employ primarily logos within my paper, while also using the ethos of the authors of the sources I reference.

7. One source I will be using is the Bible to clearly define how Christians define the term “morality”. I will also be using several credible philosophical works to add credibility to my arguments on the definition of the term. They will help to clarify my definition because they re-enforce where my definition is coming from, and effectively show where the opposing definition of the term is coming from at the source.

1. What word/term/concept/idea will you be defining?
-What is a friend?
2. What is your unique perspective on the word/term you are defining? How will your definition differ from others?
-Has the idea of friends changed with the production of technology? How do social-networking friendships change societies view on friends? Is someone that you have not spoken to for an extended period of time still considered your friend? What now defines a friend? My definition of a friend is someone that you speak to on a regular basis, and someone who knows about you more than just a few simple facts.
3. What is the audience for your project? Be specific!
-The audience is all people that network and have friends, whether they have a Facebook, Twitter, etc. or not.
4. How is your audience likely to define the word/term before reading your essay? How are they likely to feel about the word/term beforehand? How are they likely to react to YOUR definition of it?
-They would probably say that a friend is someone that you talk to, or know. They probably would think that my definition of a friend is old fashioned and that people cannot base friendship on actually knowing a person.
5. What is your purpose in arguing this definition? Why is your definition important?
-Technology has greatly affected the lives of everyone. Our views on friends are changing on a regular basis. My definition is important because it is important to know who your actual friends are, and who are just people that you are acquainted with.

6. What strategies (ethos/logos/pathos appeals, resemblance arguments, etc.) do you plan to use in making this argument?
-The fact that I have almost 400 friends on facebook, but I only talk to about 10 of them and actually could tell you information about them. Also some people that you are friends with could change and not be your friends anymore all because of these social network sites. I have personal experience where someone has decided that they are not going to be another person’s friend over facebook.
7. What sources do you intend to use for this project? How will they clarify or add to your definition argument?
-Books and articles about how technology is now changing our lives and also I would use books articles about psychology on what friends mean to people and how important it is to have friends.

1. What word/term/concept/idea will you be defining?
- abortion

2. What is your unique perspective on the word/term you are defining? How will your definition differ from others?
- abortion to me is the killing of an unborn child and it is still murder. Others do not think of it as murder because it is an unborn child.

3. What is the audience for your project? Be specific!

- ethos

7. What sources do you intend to use for this project? How will they clarify or add to your definition argument?

1.Advertising: Information or Manipulation
2.The fact that advertising is part of my major gives me a unique perspective on this term. My definition of advertising will differ from other people because most people just think of the general exterior of advertising (commercials, ads, etc) but I will try to inform why advertising can be important and is a very creative in depth process.
3.The audience I will use for this project will be small business owners
4.The audience I have chosen is likely to define advertising as something that can either be very beneficial or very harmful towards their own business. I do think they will agree with the definition of advertising in my paper.
5.My purpose in arguing this topic is to inform the public more about advertising, and to not see at as some overwhelming nuisance in their everyday life. My definition will be important with setting the tone for my paper and allowing me to go more in depth with my topic.
6.The ethos of my paper will concentrate mostly on why I think advertising is important and often times not given the credit it deserves for many people’s success. The logos will support my argument by giving evidence of this success and interesting important facts that will only make my argument stronger. Lastly the pathos of my paper will give a closer look into specific businesses and business people’s success or failure with advertising.
7.The sources I plan to use are advertising firms websites, articles on different businesses and wherever else I happen to find the particular facts I need.

1. beauty
2. a burden; others may define beauty in a positive way whereas I think it is negative.
3. people in my past.
4. i think other people would define beauty as an easy way out. they would have different ideas of what beauty is and would most likely disagree with my definition.
5. don't judge a person by their looks
6. stories from my past and examples where beauty may have gotten a person in trouble rather than helping them.
7. i plan on using life experience as well as journal sources that support and argue my definition.

1. The term I will be defining is Hypocrit
2.My perspective on the term is that alot of people are hypocrits and do not know that they are and actually do not know the meaning of being a hypocrit. My definition will give people a better understanding of the word and its character.
3. My audience will be people who claim themselves christians.
4.My audience would probably define the term as I would define it as telling someone what they are doing is wrong but are actually doing the same thing.
5. I believe that there are many church goers who claim to be fully christ like and are not. But try to tell others how they should live there lives.
6.I plan supporting my argument using my own experiences and examples of people around me being hypocrites, using examples of others from research.
7.I plan on using first hand evidence and stories from myself and using examples and reserach form credible sources.

1. What is success?
2. Success is setting goals and accomplishing them in life through hard work, dedication, and commitment. Success is not simply about obtaining wealth or a high social status. Success is developed from failure, which teaches us what not to do the next time in order to be successful.
3. My brother
4. Success is accomplishment/achievement, many people would probably agree with my definition
5. My purpose is to present a view of success and to show the many different views of success and the diversity of success.
6. Ethos and logos, examples of success among various groups i.e. doctors, lawyers, Wall Street executives, a family man; failure-success stories, self experience
7. Various stories of success and books about success

3. Anyone concerned about the planet.
4. They will be split, one group will say that the earth is just naturally warming up and others will agree with the idea that humans have sped up the global-warming process.
5. The definition is important because we all live on this planet and if we helped to speed up it's death than people need to know so we can try to fix our mistakes.
6. Logos, Pathos, Ethos
7. Environmental books, journals that are based on global warming, and many sources that argue against me.

1. God
2. God is everything. My definition will differ from others because not too many people that work at church summer camps and attend church every week and have intervarsity (Christian) groups in their room every Wednesday for poker nights are atheist.
3. My audience for this project will be my friend Luke. (He runs the intervarsity group for Wayne State with his fiancée).
4. Luke will define this term as many typical radical Christians do, “The supernatural being conceived as the perfect and omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe; the object of worship in monotheistic religions”. Luke will feel very comfortable discussing this term and be very open about my feelings towards it. He will react respectfully and will probably try to sway my mind towards his beliefs a little bit haha but not much. He is very understanding and open about this term.
5. My purpose in writing this is because I guess I’ve never really put a lot of thought into why I do/don’t believe in certain aspects of the Christian faith and I’d like to explore that for my own beneficial reasons. My definition is important because I feel that something/someone in the beginning made all this crap we call (insert word here), just nobody knows what.
6. I will use all ends of the rhetoric spectrum when writing this paper. There are so many different outlooks on this word; it will be hard to fit in all of the different beliefs.
7. I will definitely be using the internet heavily, along with books/journals written about god and faith. I will also be interviewing different peers about their personal experience/relationship with god and how they all differ. These sources will show what a broad spectrum there is in regards to this term.

1. What word/term/concept/idea will you be defining? Smart.
2. What is your unique perspective on the word/term you are defining? How will your definition differ from others? I think being smart can mean a lot of different things, most people don’t really define smart as someone who has a lot of common sense or knows what to do in difficult situations.
3. What is the audience for your project? Be specific! To anyone who questions the definition of being smart, and anyone who considers themselves as smart.
4. How is your audience likely to define the word/term before reading your essay? How are they likely to feel about the word/term beforehand? How are they likely to react to YOUR definition of it? The audience and a lot of people define the word smart as someone who knows a lot of good information. I think they will understand my definition of smart because it’s hard to really pinpoint the definition of it.
5. What is your purpose in arguing this definition? Why is your definition important? I think there are a lot of meanings to being smart. Don’t you ever wonder what being smart really means?
6. What strategies (ethos/logos/pathos appeals, resemblance arguments, etc.) do you plan to use in making this argument? I will use ethos, logos, and pathos to make the argument.
7. What sources do you intend to use for this project? How will they clarify or add to your definition argument? People who themselves say they are smart and also the internet and articles about being smart, it will help show a different view and also catch the attention of those who do not look at smart in that definition.

1. Faith
2. I have a lot of faith and I think that people who have faith in general are happier. Others might take the word faith with a grain of salt and not realize the importance of it.
3. The audience for my project would be a group of people who don’t have much faith in anything and would like to be reminded why it’s important to have faith.
4. Many people associate the word faith with hope but in my essay I’m going to make sure the audience realizes the difference. Beforehand people might think the word faith isn’t that meaningful but they might act positive towards my definition.
5 My purpose is to make people more optimistic and have more faith.
6. Mostly ethos.
7. My sources are going to be past experiences, journals, and other articles I can find that include stories involving faith.

1. What word/term/concept/idea will you be defining?
- Single Mother
2. What is your unique perspective on the word/term you are defining? How will your definition differ from others?
- It’s a personal experience and by it being personal I have my own unique definition of a single mother.
3. What is the audience for your project? Be specific!
- The audience is general I guess
4. How is your audience likely to define the word/term before reading your essay? How are they likely to feel about the word/term beforehand? How are they likely to react to YOUR definition of it?
- I would think they would define it as the father not being present or the mother is struggling for everything. Some people could probably relate if not then I’m sure it’ll peak their interest. My definition would probably be an eye opener because I’m sure no one has thought of a single mother being the way I describe what it is like to be a single mother.
5. What is your purpose in arguing this definition? Why is your definition important?
- My purpose is to show people that being a single mother doesn’t always mean that the father is not involved.

6. What strategies (ethos/logos/pathos appeals, resemblance arguments, etc.) do you plan to use in making this argument?
- All three
7. What sources do you intend to use for this project? How will they clarify or add to your definition argument?
- I don’t know yet.

1. Mohamad Motaz Kaakarli
2. my difference in perspective comes from the person himself, which carries a bias, but also carries knowledge none other has.
3. My audience as specific as possible is my parents.
4. The audience/parents would define me in two different yet similar definition, the difference would be somewhere along the lines of what they expect from me and the similarities would be the mushy and embarrassing stuff.
5. The purpose I am arguing is more of a never ending mission, a mission that includes defining me, and defying me.
6. Generally pathos
7. sources will primarily be myself, but also include paraphrased thoughts from the people who shape my life.

1. Murder

2. My definition of murder is a bit more harsh, but a definition that I feel explains it better than what most people believe

3. My audience is the general public, but leaning towards people who know someone who has killed someone in self-defense or accused and found innocent

4. The unlawful killing of a human being by another human being. People are most likely uneasy about this subject, and I believe my definition might cause people to feel a bit more uneasy

5. Some people do not completely understand how much peoples' lives change by killing in self-defense or merely being accused of murder

6. A majority of pathos, but some logos to back it up

7. I will try to look up articles of the after-effects of such cases along with logic of my own and common sense
